Cambridge Maths School: Chance to find out more as applications open for 2023

A Cambridge Maths School Open Event - on Wednesday, 19 October 2022 - will offer school pupils from across the East of England an opportunity to find out more about the new pioneering sixth form, which opens next year.

探花直播free event, at Cambridge 探花直播’s Centre for Mathematical Sciences, is aimed at Year 11 students and their parents, but is open to all students who are starting to consider their A-levels options.

Applications for the state-funded sixth form - being developed by the , in partnership with the 探花直播 of Cambridge – opened this week. 探花直播Maths School will launch in Mill Road in September 2023, welcoming talented students who will study maths and further maths, and then choose from physics, chemistry, biology or computer science A-Levels.

探花直播October Open Event – which follows the School’s successful Open Events and Eureka outreach enrichment days in the summer - will give prospective students the chance to find out more about the School’s curriculum, and the rich learning experience they can expect. There will be more information about how the School’s specialist teaching will develop students’ academic literacy, and independent learning and study skills.

Founding Headteacher Clare Hargraves, who will present the School’s vision at the event, and answer questions, said: “Mathematics opens up opportunities in academia as well as across a breadth of careers, ranging from metrology to games design, biomedical research to sports statistics. It is a fascinating subject that challenges and rewards those who pursue its study.

“I'm very much looking forward to receiving applications from young people across the region who share our passion for maths and look forward to building an exceptional first cohort together at the Cambridge Maths School.”

Professor Colm-cille Caulfield, Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics & Theoretical Physics at the 探花直播 of Cambridge (DAMTP), said: “Mathematics in Cambridge is committed to diversifying the subject, and having as wide an impact as possible on pre- 探花直播 maths education.

“ 探花直播‘Eureka Day’ enrichment events held in the summer were hugely enjoyable, and gave us an opportunity to share some of our insights and research with prospective students. Maths is a thrilling and continually evolving subject, and we look forward to encouraging more young people to see the range of opportunities and applications learning maths offers through the Cambridge Maths School partnership.”

Working with the 探花直播’s Faculty of Mathematics, and drawing on its outreach and widening participation expertise - in particular the success of the  (MMP) and its  programme - the  aims to attract more female students into maths subjects, more minority ethnic students, and more students from socially and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. 探花直播School is also working with the  project - a collaboration between Cambridge 探花直播 Press and Assessment, and the Faculties of Education and Mathematics - to create an innovative mathematics curriculum.
