This week the 探花直播's East Asia Institute (EAI) will be holding a half-day seminar, sponsored by the Government of the Republic of Korea, focusing on political and economic developments on the Korean peninsula. At a time when the North Korean nuclear crisis is very much in the news following the latest round of 6-party talks in Beijing, the seminar is a rare opportunity to hear the views of a number of leading Korean and UK-based Korea specialists on a variety of critical contemporary issues.

探花直播speakers for the event include:

Dr Judith Cherry - Lecturer in Korean Studies at the School of East Asian Studies, Sheffield 探花直播, with a research focus on Korean foreign direct investment and post-crisis corporate reform in Korea. She has served on a number of trade-related UK government committees and was awarded the MBE in 1999 for services to the UK 'Export to Korea' campaign.

Dr. Jim Hoare - a member of the Research Cadre of HM Diplomatic Service from 1969 until his retirement in January 2003, during which time he served in Seoul and Beijing, and finally as British charge d'affaires in Pyongyang with responsibility for establishing the UK's first embassy to North Korea.

Dr. Choongsoo Kim - President of the Korea Development Institute, one of South Korea's leading think-tanks specialising in policy research and analysis and economic forecasting for both the public and private sectors. A graduate of Seoul National 探花直播 and the 探花直播 of Pennsylvania, Dr Kim has served in a variety of prominent policy positions including: Assistant Minister and Special Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister, Ministry of Finance and Economy; Minister and Head of the OECD Office, Korean Embassy in Paris; and Secretary to the President for Economic Affairs, Office of the President.

Dr. Il-Dong Koh - Senior Fellow and economist at the Korea Development Institute with wide-ranging research interests including North-South Korean economic relations, environmental issues and sustainable development, and the economic aspects of German unification. Dr Koh acts as a consultant for a number of institutions within the government of the Republic of Korea, including the Ministry of Unification, the Committee for Inter-Korean Agricultural Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, the National Intelligence Services; and the Federation of Korean Industries.

探花直播seminar will take place from 2 to 6pm at the Peterhouse lecture theatre, Peterhouse on Thursday 4 March. All are welcome.
