Grammy award winning violinist Pinchas Zukerman will perform in Cambridge in a special concert on Monday 1 March, as part of the Camerata Musica: International Artists Series, thanks to an anonymous benefactor.
Grammy award winning violinist Pinchas Zukerman will perform in Cambridge in a special concert on Monday 1 March, as part of the Camerata Musica: International Artists Series, thanks to an anonymous benefactor.
Zukerman will appear alongside his Chamber Players in the final concert of the series held at Peterhouse.
Born in Israel, Zukerman moved to the United States to study at the Juilliard School, making his debut in New York in 1963. He went on to win the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1966 and later became Director of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.
He has recorded over 100 works and has been nominated for 21 Grammy Awards, winning two, the first for Best Chamber Music Performance in 1980 alongside Itzhak Perlman, and Best Classical Performance by an Instrumental Soloist without Orchestra in 1981.
He has collaborated with some of the world鈥檚 finest orchestras and musicians, touring extensively throughout the United States.
Zukerman is particularly interested in inspiring young musicians, and is currently a faculty member at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music where he is head of the Zukerman Performance Program.
探花直播Zukerman Chamber Players, formed in 2003, have performed over 40 concerts around the world and recorded four CDs, the latest release in May 2008.
探花直播ensemble is made up of some of the world鈥檚 most distinguished soloists: Sadao Harada, founding member of the Tokyo String Quartet, Jessica Linnebach, first violinist in the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Jethro Marks, founding violist in the Chamber Players. Ashan Pillai, Principal viola in the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and Amanda Forsyth, Principal cello of the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Zukerman鈥檚 wife.
Music performed on the night will range from Mozart to Brahms and Boccherini.
Camerata Musica was founded in 2005 and aims to bring international musicians of distinction to Cambridge, and to make high standards of classical music available to all. This year, the series has been supported by 探花直播Kohn Foundation.
Previous musicians that have appeared include Kurt Masur and members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Garlikitsky Trio, Sir Thomas Allen, Natalie Clein, 探花直播Tallis Scholars and Melchior Ensemble.
Full price tickets for the event are 拢30, concessions (OAP鈥檚 and university members) 拢15 and students 拢5. Due to high demand for student tickets, those interested should please email admin@cameratamusica.org.uk to be entered into a ballot. 探花直播concert will begin at 8:30pm
