A six-week public consultation has opened on future development of land to the north west of Cambridge City Centre.
Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire District Councils are working together to draw up an Area Action Plan for the 140 hectare ̽»¨Ö±²¥-owned land between Madingley Road and Huntingdon Road.
̽»¨Ö±²¥first stage of this process is an Issues and Options Report which asks the public and key organisations about a number of alternatives for the development of the site.
These include five different options for the development of the site together with a new Green Belt boundary and a means to ensure green separation for Girton village.
Consideration will be given to possibilities for an orbital transport route and to whether there should be additional road connections to the M11 at Madingley Road.
Also open for consultation will be the location of a local centre for the site and whether a new secondary school should be built there.
In 2005 the ̽»¨Ö±²¥ developed an illustrative Masterplan for the sector. Alongside the preparation of the Area Action Plan, the ̽»¨Ö±²¥ are planning to finalise their masterplan over the next few months and local communities will again be involved in this process.
There will be exhibitions through the six week period at the Guildhall in Cambridge, South Cambridgeshire District Council at Cambourne and public libraries around the city.
In addition, a touring exhibition, where staff from the City Council and the ̽»¨Ö±²¥ will be on hand to answer questions, will visit three venues in the area:
- ̽»¨Ö±²¥Pavilion, Girton Village Recreation Ground
Friday 6 October 2 – 8.30pm - ̽»¨Ö±²¥Pavilion, ̽»¨Ö±²¥ Sports Ground, Wilberforce Road
Tuesday 10 October 2 -8.30pm - ̽»¨Ö±²¥Auditorium, Fitzwilliam College, Storey’s Way
Monday 23 October 2 – 8.30pm
Proposals for development of land to the north of Huntingdon Road will also be on display.
